Do brands make a difference?

This week I decided to do my own test on make up to see if labels really do mean anything and if it is worth paying that bit extra for our make-up. I decided to use 3 of my every day essentials which are…

  • Rimmel scandal eyes show off mascara, 001 black
  • Rimmel lasting finish 1000 kisses lip tint and balm, 130 don’t stop blushing
  • Miss sporty studio lash eye liner,001 extra black

I decided to swap them for cheap versions of their selves and see how different the result was…so this is what I swapped them for …

  • Rimmel mascara >>> black mascara from a make-up set bought from BHS
  • Rimmel lip balm and tint >>> lip stain pen freebie from a magazine
  • Miss sporty eyeliner>>> black eye liner from a make-up set bought from BHS

I then tested them for a week and decided which ones were my favourites out of each experiment, and if the labels and price does actually effect the quality of the makeup.

    So here are my results….
Test one - Mascara

So on this image above, I put the cheap mascara on my left eye and the Rimmel mascara on my right one. As you can probably see my left eye looks a bit clumped up.

My personal opinion on them - the Rimmel mascara separated my eyelashes more every time used it but it took a lot more coats to get it to the length and volume than the cheaper mascara did. However, the cheap mascara was lot more clumpy and smudged a lot more easily so for this experiment I would say the Rimmel mascara was my favourite option.

Test two - Lipstick

This photo is me with the Rimmel lip tint and balm on.

This photo is me with the cheap lipstain on.

My personal opinion - As you can see in the photos the colours are different and the Rimmel Liptint makes my lips look fuller and bright. However the balm that came with it was pretty useless as it was sticky and after the first couple of time it was stained by the lip tint that I put on my lips before hand. Also the liptint was quite dry and made my lips dry and cracked, I had to put Vaseline over the top to hydrate them. The cheap lipstain was also colourful and bright but it didn't last as long as the Rimmel one and also made my lips extremely dry. So the result of this one is the Rimmel was my favourate due to the colour and the amount of time it stayed on, however it needs a bit more moisture to it.

Test three - Eye-liner

On my left eye is my cheap eye liner and on the right is my Miss sporty eye liner.

My personal opinion - The miss sporty eye-liner came out a lot thinner and wetter than the cheap eye liner and therefore smudged a whole lot more. The cheap eye liner came out fuller and was easier for me to apply due to the brush being a little thicker and the liquid not being as wet or smudgy. Therefore overall my favourite eye liner for this test is the cheap eyeliner from a makeup set.

OVERALL - overall 2/3 of my make up tests came out that I preferred the Labelled items. The quality of the make-up is different to the cheaper ones but that doesn't always mean that in my opinion you get better results.
